Whirpool Makes a Splash with PIAM System

Home appliance manufacturer Whirlpool has implemented a Web-based product information management system, with the help of

RWD Technologies (Columbia, MD). Whirpool's Product Information Asset Management (PIAM) system uses document management technology from Documentum (Pleasanton, CA) to manage the creation, storage, review, update and approval process for all of Whirpool's product information and user manuals. The information is stored in an electronic "vault" where users with read-only access can view the information, using a standard Web browser. "Our new PIAM system will greatly improve the quality and accuracy of the information we distribute to our customers and trade partners," said Whirpool senior product manager Mike Berendsen. Whirpool and Documentum first announced the project in July of last year.
