Wall St. savvy Knowmadic applications

Knowmadic, a Cupertino, CA-based software developer, will soon unveil KM.Studio, which is said to capture and automate the entire TCP/IP data stream. According to Keepsup Choe, Knowmadic’s VP of marketing, the product is designed to increase top-line growth by converging only desired and relevant data from Web pages, legacy and ERP systems, documents, spreadsheets and databases into custom data views and automated work processes.

KM.Studio is built upon the company’s Web-centric Open Object Framework, which is XML compliant and integrates with existing messaging and database layers. Developers using the product are able to drag and drop navigation and extraction objects and connect them with business-rule objects to create applications.

The company reports KM.Studio extends the business processes beyond the enterprise to produce user-programmable work objects that execute specific tasks. For example, executing transactions, checking inventory databases, performing comparisons and facilitating business processes among partners and suppliers, all involve discrete pieces of work that can be quantified, modeled and captured as work objects.

Knowmadic has focused KM.Studio on the finance industry. CEO Jyotsna Khandekar cites as an example an investment bank that uses KM.Studio to perform analytics, gather news from various sources and capture information on industry segments. The information is then ranked by relevance, segregated into discrete groups and integrated with the internal customer resource management solution to provide a customized composite view.

Among KM.Studio’s features are:

• a process to identify and hold persistent "locks" on target data on any Web site, regardless of cookies, dynamic HTML or reformatting of the page;

• the ability to extract any format including PDF, HTML, text and MS Word;

• a non-proprietary open architecture;

• an intuitive, point-and-click environment to create objects;

• a "sand box" facility to wrap pre-existing objects or code,

• an encapsulation mechanism to abstract from lower-level objects;

• a code generator that converts the objects to VB and XML; and

• "training" algorithms to aid the user in the search for relevant information.
