Verity and Alis Join for Multilingual Search/Retrieval

A multilingual search and retrieval engine is the result of a deal between Verity (Sunnyvale, CA) and Alis Technologies (Montreal). The two have combined their products to offer technology that enables users to search for and retrieve content in their own language. The product addresses the needs of the 42% of Web users living outside the U.S., identified by a recent International Data Corporation (IDC, Framingham, MA) report. Using technology from both Verity and Alis, users will be able to enter a search query in their own language, search content in a different language, and obtain the results in their own language. The combination will be of particular benefit to online content providers, according to Ron Weissman, Verity's VP of worldwide marketing, as online publishers and Web developers "can also now provide multilingual access to rapidly changing content."
