Software development kit from 80-20

The Darwin Software Development Kit from 80-20 allows C++ developers to create concept-based knowledge management technology using patented algorithms. Darwin uses patented algorithms that match the concept of the question to similar concepts in e-mails, Web and archived information.

Says Frank Stranges, 80-20’s CEO, “The [search and retrieval] engine provides advanced crawling, indexing, searching, analysis, clustering and pattern matching services for Darwin, which includes components for unstructured data, expertise and management.”

Darwin, which underwent more than 40 man-years of development, is concept-based and arranges information according to concepts rather than keywords or pre-defined category trees. The software interrogates the target content without regard to a pre-set context derived from a static taxonomy; its context is gained from the user’s query. The SDK contains components for natural language parsing and clustering. Each component makes reference to a common library, which contains objects and routines shared by all components.

The Darwin SDK is targeted at developers who want to incorporate sophisticated retrieval into their own applications on the Microsoft Windows 2000 and NT, Unix and Linux platforms.
