Scanning solution for healthcare from Nuance

Nuance Communications has unveiled the eCopy Healthcare Solution Pack, which, the company says, has been designed to reduce the cost and overhead of scanning medical documents. Nuance further claims the solution enables healthcare organizations to improve the quality of care with faster access to patient information, and strengthen patient record security and HIPAA compliance frameworks.

The solution leverages eCopy ShareScan Suite, which provides healthcare organizations with everything needed to automate paper-to-digital workflows from networked multifunction printers (MFPs), letting healthcare workers scan paper documents easily and securely using existing investments in network MFPs and scanners. Nuance reports eCopy Healthcare Solution Pack’s capabilities include:

• scanning outside patient records—real-time conversion of “loose” paper documents (e.g. consult notes, test results, discharge summaries) to searchable PDFs that can be quickly accessed online in secure electronic patient records;
• scanning historical charts—batch conversion of historical paper charts to electronic records using barcode cover sheet technology to auto-index, name and route documents to secure electronic patient folders;
• scanning admissions patient history forms—extract patient history data from an optical mark patient admissions form into a format that can be imported into a provider’s electronic health record system; and
• assessing document workflow—a customizable report that identifies specific areas where the healthcare organization can further optimize its document processes.
