Power to the users

Vignette has released V6 MultiSite Content Manager (VMCM), an extension to its V6 Content Suite. It claims VMCM is the first application to allow organizations to easily manage content on multiple sites and portals within an organization via a single application.

VMCM offers centralized control and delegated administration capabilities said to help organizations push content management responsibilities to a diverse set of users, including those in technical and business departments. Further, Vignette adds, VMCM was designed with an open architecture and can integrate with servers from companies such as BEA, IBM and Sun.

The company says VMCM allows organizations to lower costs by leveraging existing application and portal server investments. Further, it reports, the software enables organizations to design and deploy new sites and portals more quickly and easily. By connecting a decentralized content creation model with a single application, says Vignette, it’s possible to offer each user more distinct, relevant information. The company says with delegated administration, business users throughout the organization can develop "cloned" sites, or subsites, that reuse content from the original site while offering a more distinct, relevant environment.
