Open Text provides "smart push"

Open Text's (Waterloo, Ontario, http://www.opentext.com

) Livelink users will soon benefit from change agents as part of the product's new version, scheduled for release in June. The company also announced that the new version will support Adobe Capture, as well as provide what Open Text calls a "smart push" of PDF, meaning that a document checked into Livelink can be automatically rendered in PDF.

The company's forthcoming change-agent technology is designed to push information to users that they have indicated is relevant to their work processes. Within their Livelink intranet application, users can set parameters regarding what information they would like to receive, in what form they want to receive it and how often.

According to David Weinberger, VP of strategic marketing, the user can subscribe to individual objects in Livelink, including documents, folders and business processes (workflows). When the information is changed, the user is sent hyperlinked E-mail on a schedule that he or she sets.

For some users, Livelink will feel like a secure E-mail attachment system in that the user won't know that he or she is dealing with Livelink. Weinberger said the next wave in the idea of intranet "push" technology will be to connect to other sources of information such as Lotus Notes.
