NCR and Microsoft to Pool EC, DW Resources

NCR (Dayton, OH) and Microsoft (Redmond, WA) have announced an agreement to offer data warehousing and electronic commerce to the enterprise. The first in a series of joint announcements calls for the integration of NCR's Teradata RDBMS with Microsoft's SQL Server. This integration will pave the way for organizations to develop distributed data marts, Internet commerce, customer relationship management and other applications like ERP and call centers. Microsoft's Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition, Internet Information Server and other products will be combined with NCR's experience in the retail, financial and communications industries to develop industry E-commerce solutions and vertical applications. The resulting solutions will "leverage NCR's strong leadership in data warehousing with its Teradata data warehouse engine and Microsoft's strengths in data marts and enterprise electronic-commerce applications," according to Microsoft chairman and CEO Bill Gates. "By delivering solutions that leverage the data warehouse, NCR and Microsoft will give businesses new and extremely powerful ways to understand and interact with customers," added Lars Nyberg, NCR chairman and CEO.
