Migration patterns

Avanade, a joint venture between Microsoft and Accenture has developed an application migration tool that it claims enable faster, more reliable migration of applications from Lotus Notes to the Microsoft platform. Avanade plans to offer this tool in conjunction with its existing Exchange Migration solution, which addresses the migration of messaging from competing platforms to Microsoft Exchange 2000.

The new offering is said to facilitate the analysis of .nsf databases, helps create corresponding SQL databases and then manages the migration of data. Also, says Avanade, it includes a .Net-based XML document framework that allows a company to standardize its custom HTML forms creation, management and routing to backend systems using XML.

It also includes a methodology for migration projects, an example of "before" and "after" code base of a Lotus Notes application migration, access to the most current Microsoft tool set, training and white papers, as well as guidance for other industry-standard tools in this area, says Avanade.
