Lotus Names CTO
Lotus Development Corp (Cambridge, MA) has named Nick Shelness as its new CTO. Shelness joined Lotus in 1994 when it acquired SoftSwitch, where he served as chief scientist. Since then, he has served as Chief Messaging Architect of Lotus' Communications Product Division. Shelness has also been named as a Lotus Fellow. "Nick is first and foremost a pragmatist, an extremely valuable commodity among our industry's technologists," said Lotus president Jeff Papows. Lotus also officially named James Fieger as president of worldwide field operations, a position he has held on an acting basis since October. Fieger most recently served as VP of Lotus' Worldwide IBM Industry Solution Unit Sales Support and Enablement, where he helped to craft business linkages between the Lotus and IBM sales forces.
