Kofax unveils Ascent Capture 7.0

Kofax's new Ascent Capture 7.0 platform is said to strengthen its enterprise scalability and also feature an open architecture for developing custom applications. The company reports this combination increases productivity and flexibility in processing documents through distributed capture, which in turn enables outsourcing and workload balancing. Further, says Kofax, the Ascent Capture platform offers wide compatibility with scanners and other capture devices, as well as with content and document management systems, and workflow applications and databases.

Kofax adds that Version 7.0 supports fail-over technology that ensures document processing continues without administrator intervention should a hardware, file system or database failure occur, or if the power to a server is interrupted. The fail-over is transparent to the user, who can continue to process documents without interruption. Network load balancing through the Ascent Capture Internet Server (ACIS) also increases performance, scalability and reliability, Kofax reports.

The "VRS QC Later" feature employs Kofax's VirtualReScan (VRS) technology, which automatically straightens, crops and optimizes the readability of scanned documents in real time. As images pass through a scanner, VRS performs a multi-point inspection of each document, instantly checking and adjusting for alignment (skew), brightness, contrast and image clarity. Any inconsistencies are immediately corrected by VRS so that only the straightest, most readable images are processed.

Through an open, non-proprietary architecture, Ascent Capture 7.0 offers improved integration of third-party custom applications or modules and enables developers to create applications using industry standards, such as XML, COM and Web Services APIs.

Kofax explains an ACIS batch-routing feature can send batches to any Ascent Capture site at any point in the workflow to enable remote validation, workload balancing and, if necessary, re-scanning.
