Jim Povec joins Knowledge Asset Media as co-president/CEO

SoftBank IT show exec Jim Povec joins Knowledge Asset Media as co-president/CEO

Editor Andy Moore, Sales Director Kathy Rogals named IW co-publishers

Camden, ME, June 5

—James S. Povec joins Knowledge Asset Media, Inc. as co-CEO and President of KAM Marketing Forums, the producer of the DIIME show, according to President/CEO Bruce Taylor, who simultaneously named IW Editor-in-Chief Andy Moore and Sales Director Kathy Rogals as co-Publishers.

The top management team was announced one week after newly formed Knowledge Asset Media had successfully acquired both the IW news journal and the DIIME trade show from Cardinal Business Media.

Povec will head KAM Marketing Forums, the professional education unit which will develop, promote and manage marketplace events such as expositions, conferences and seminars. He leaves his post as Vice President of SoftBank Forums (formerly SoftBank Expos), Foster City, CA, to join KAM. His interna-tional responsibilities at SoftBank included general management of eight trade shows and conferences, including, in Japan, Networld+Interop, COMDEX, Seybold and Windows NT Intranet Solutions.

In the U.S., he was responsible for the Windows NT show in San Francisco and the SoftBank Knowledge Interact events, including Interactive’97, Computer Training and Support Conference and the two annual Support Services shows.

Povec previously served International Data Group (IDG) in various senior roles, including as president of CW Publishing, publishers of Computerworld and Network World. He also managed, as President and CEO, IDG’s operations in Japan, where he launched Japanese editions of Mac World Magazine and Expo, Sun World Magazine and Expo, and Windows World Magazine and Expo.

Taylor says Povec’s first job will be to provide the kind of “high-level leadership” for the Document Image and Information Management Expo (DIIME, http://www.diime.com) that will ensure that “the annual event becomes an increasingly stronger marketing partner to the many companies in the document-, content- and workflow-intensive enterprise information management market. Jim Povec and I began our computer publishing careers together more than 15 years ago. I know the kind of customer-centered leadership he brings to the companies and people he works with and the markets he helps to develop.”

Povec says that his attraction to the new company is that “Bruce Taylor and I share a belief that the future of information-providing businesses belongs to those who understand how to publish focused publications, shows, websites and conferences where true community can be built. That’s exactly the vision that Bruce has for Knowledge Asset Media, and that’s what Bruce with Andy Moore, Kathy Rogals and the staff at IW have brought to this market with that flagship publication.”

Andy Moore joined IW as Editor in Chief from the same post at Imaging Magazine, a publication he had helped to launch. Taylor says of Moore, “Nobody better represents the concept of knowledge assets in this market than does Andy. His close-in technology and vendor understanding and his visible information-providing leadership are important business drivers for the whole industry.”

Kathy Rogals has been with IW from early in its six-and-a-half year history. “Kathy’s innate understanding of customers and how to serve them has been critical to the development of IW from very nearly the beginning,” says Taylor. “These two are key to the reputation and position that IW now enjoys. Their every-day efforts to serve their customers—readers and advertisers both—are our success.”

IW, founded by Taylor in 1991, currently mails 18 times a year to more than 90,000 business and information management professionals and managers in the service and distribution channels for document-centric information management technologies in North America. The DIIME’97 trade show and the companion AIIM Technology Forum conference will attract 15,000 business and technical managers to McCormick Place, Chicago, Oct. 15-17.
