InfoMation Unveils Echo Application
An application for delivering relevant news and information to corporate users has been unveiled by InfoMation (Burlington, MA). Echo is designed to help corporations, either as a whole or as individual users, "target their specific information needs and then share their knowledge with others," said InfoMation president and CEO Bob Portrie. Echo uses standard Web browsers to retrieve and integrate information from various sources, including newsfeeds, newsgroups, and internal company databases. InfoMation will pursue a vertical market strategy for Echo, starting with the insurance industry; contracts have already been signed with the Financial Times Information, News Alert, Phillips Publishing International, and Telecommunications Reports International. Echo "emphasizes the strategic nature of information and the requirement for companies to leverage their information assets relative to the real time business needs of every employee throughout their organization," said IDC (Framingham, MA) analyst Gerry Murray. The product will be available in Q1 '98.
