FrontOffice adds document management to Exchange

Microsoft's (Redmond, WA,

http://www.microsoft.com) Microsoft Exchange does a lot of things, but it doesn't do document management. Without that component, products such as Domino.Doc from Lotus, FastTrak from Netscape and GroupWise from Novell threaten growth and marketshare. A new product from FrontOffice Technologies (San Mateo, CA, http://www.frontofficetech.com), however, adds document management to Microsoft Exchange, extending the capabilities for managing information stored on the local network, the Internet and on corporate intranets.

FrontOffice works with the operating and message systems of Microsoft Exchange and enables users to capture, file, secure, collaborate and publish documents. The product provides public folder management extensions, version control, check in and check out, document history, integrated searching capabilities, the ability to collaborate across wide area networks, and simplified intranet content publishing. The enterprisewide feature allows users to collaborate using virtual storage hierarchies that provide a storage and retrieval environment mapped to business projects and tasks. For security, tight integration with Windows NT allows FrontOffice to make use of the Windows NT advanced security system rather than requiring one of its own.

FrontOffice is scheduled to ship in June, initially only available to corporations with 1,000 seats or more. Pricing begins at $125 per seat or lower, depending on quantity. For more information, call (415) 570-6000 or go to http://www.frontofficetech.com.
