Documentum releases new version of EDMS

Documentum has released a new version of its EDMS document management system. EDMS 98 now offers document capture technology from Input Software, document viewing features from Informative Graphics and publishing capabilities for users of Adobe FrameMaker. EDMS 98 also includes an automated agent for records management services, and a pair of enhanced Web clients. EDMS 98 offers ease of deployability and ease of use, two areas where Documentum has not been particularly strong in the past, according to IDC senior analyst Amie White. Pricing depends on volume and which features you want: the Web clients cost $200-$650; the DocInput document capture feature, $6,000-$40,000; the DocViewer viewing feature, $195; and the FrameLink publishing feature, $645- $1,045.
