Categorically seeking solutions

Categorically seeking solutionsSmartlogik targets the Global 2000

With software designed to run on Internet-based application server platforms, including Sun’s Java J2EE and Microsoft’s Com+, Smartlogik has developed new search and categorization technology that is said to integrate human insight and expertise.

Smartlogik reports the offering combines its natural language search engine Muscatdiscovery with its rules-based categorization engine Muscatstructure.

Muscatstructure enables the development of a unique taxonomy tailored to meet individual requirements, enhancing users’ ability to find precise information they need, the company says. Each new piece of content is automatically scanned, sorted and classified with the highest degree of consistency and accuracy, thus removing the need for manual indexing of new documents. Muscatstructure also enables information experts to continually review the rules it uses to classify documents.

The company explains that Muscatdiscovery enables users to find the content they need anywhere within the enterprise, partner network or from external resources via the Internet. The application uses its concept-based, probabilistic search engine and analyzes the basic concepts within a user’s query and then provides sufficient related information until the query delivers the precise results, claims Smartlogik. Muscatdiscovery also provides a personalized alerting functionality to automatically notify users when a relevant piece of content becomes available.

Smartlogik also offers its customers a team of information architects within its professional services group who are trained to assess the knowledge structures and content within each organization.
