BackWeb forms alliance with IBM

BackWeb Technologies has announced an agreement with IBM to provide proactive content delivery and notification technology for WebSphere, an alliance designed to advance user interaction with Web applications and portals.

IBM explains that with BackWeb's technology, WebSphere customers can enable users to subscribe to personalized information proactively delivered to them from their Web applications. For example, they can receive alert notifications when new business-critical and time-sensitive information becomes available. Notifications and selected content can be delivered to users on PCs, PDAs, fax machines and digital cellular phones. Once delivered, the content remains available both online and offline for remote access.

IBM believes WebSphere’s new capabilities will help companies reduce the amount of time spent searching for relevant content, while helping to increase productivity of mobile and disconnected users by making selected content available offline.
