BPM bonanza

Documentum has released its business process management (BPM) solution. It consists of several new products, including Business Process Manager, Business Process Services and Forms Builder, as well as the latest version of its enterprise collaboration solution, Documentum eRoom.

The new offering integrates the collaboration capabilities in eRoom with the content management and process control capabilities of the Documentum process engine to deliver what is claimed to be the first solution that can provide on-demand collaboration at any step in a structured process.

Documentum believes automating business processes using its standards-based BPM technology offers efficiency gains for customers in addressing both highly structured business processes as well as collaborative, unstructured, content-enabled processes such as new product development and project management. It further states the solution can successfully accelerate processes across all industry applications, such as claims processing and loans in financial services to change requests and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in engineering and manufacturing to forms processing for governments, and horizontal applications such as Web publishing and accounts payable processing.

Documentum describes the solution components in the following manner:

Business Process Services—provides universal integration services for business processes to coordinate and collaborate with each other, using open, message-based integration standards such as Java Messaging Services (JMS), Web services, XML, Java and e-mail for complete automation of enterprisewide business processes.

Business Process Manager—a visual, drag-and-drop environment for defining executable business processes within the Documentum environment and beyond, enabling both business and IT users to design and model business processes without any custom programming.

Forms Builder—a graphical tool for easy creation of formlets, XML-based electronic forms that users can fill out when initiating or participating in a managed business process.

Core ECM platform—provides the Documentum process engine with capabilities such as distributed workflow, XML processing for messages in XML format, auditing and electronic signatures for business processes.

eRoom—an enterprise collaboration solution provides tight integration to Documentum content services and business processes. It can generate collaborative workspaces for unstructured, collaborative processes and for exception handling, escalations or decision-making events that require human interaction.
