Axis Communications Unveils Network Scan Server

Axis Communications (Woburn, MA) has unveiled the Axis 700 network scan server, a peripheral that allows workgroups to provide network access to a scanner. The Axis 700 uses ThinServer technology and embedded operating systems to provide network access, including Web server and management capabilities, without a dedicated PC or network file server. Users can use and manage the scan server through a standard Web browser, addressing the need to digitize information, according to Axis marketing VP Tony Viola. Users can choose from scan-to-email, scan-to-file, or scan-to-browser options. Axis 700 supports automatic document feeders, compression and image processing modules, and supports scanners from a wide range of manufacturers. The Axis scan server expands a company's existing hardware and enables the scanner to become a valuable workgroup distribution resource, according to James Enjeneski, senior technology management analyst at PanCanadian, one of Canada's largest producers and marketers of fossil fuel. "Axis' Scan Server increases the overall worth of our network by adding intelligence to the scanner and making it available to anyone connected to the network," he said. The AXIS 700 Network Scan Server is now available, with a SRP of $1,495.
