Media law and content order

Harbottle and Lewis, a London law firm specializing in the media and entertainment industry, wanted to improve knowledge sharing enterprisewide. The firm touts its range of cross-departmental groups and other initiatives to ensure lawyers are always exchanging information and ideas regarding the law and media.

To facilitate knowledge sharing across the practice, Harbottle and Lewis has implemented Solcara’s Client-Partner solution, an intranet-based system that addresses the organizational challenge of identifying, capturing, classifying and sharing content and knowledge assets.

During the first phase of the rollout, the system is being used to contain and deliver information. Mark Owen, IT partner at the firm, explains, "The system is the one place where we can put everything from technical know-how to what's going on in the firm and even down to what's on today's lunch menu. It offers a standard procedure and an easy-to-use mechanism for updates and access through the firm's intranet. We have telephone lists, client lists, marketing and client events, internal news and activities, all procedures and office systems--in fact, everything that, until now, we found difficult to categorize and deliver."

Client-Partner provides logical links into the existing document management system and makes the information in it available through the intranet. In future phases, Harbottle and Lewis will expand the information sources and content of the system to provide even greater value to its users, according to a news release from Solcara.

"Now that our users are comfortable with the software," says Owen, "we intend to gather feedback and use the system to facilitate our information strategy and further increase the amount of knowledge and general firm information available."
