Making the most of knowledge assets

Boeing Integrated Defense Systems has chosen a learning content management system to deliver training to tens of thousands of customers worldwide.

Eedo Knowledgeware's ForceTen solution will provide Boeing Integrated Defense Systems with a secure workflow environment to build content and deliver it based on the roles of learners, according to a recent press release from Eedo. That capability gives Boeing economy of scale, allowing it to repurpose assets across its learning portfolio while customizing training for its customers, according to Eedo CEO John Hudson.

Because of the large volume of content and courses that Boeing creates, the ability to use legacy content and to create assets once and reuse them multiple times was important to the company. For example, content needs to be modified based on the aircraft that is being purchased, the country purchasing it and the role of the learner. Also, for instance, the crew of an aircraft needs different information than the people who maintain the aircraft.

Waldir Arevolo De Azevedo Filho, research director at Gartner, says, "Companies that build enterprisewide e-learning systems can extend them to provide value to customers, partners and suppliers. Effectively training customers is an important ingredient for achieving business goals and staying competitive."

Boeing Integrated Defense Systems builds all its learning content in-house and supplies training related to weapons and aircraft capabilities, intelligence and surveillance systems, communications architectures and large-scale integration expertise. Customers supported include Logistics Support Services, and Air Force, Army, Missile Defense, NASA, Naval and Space and Intelligence systems.
