The Directorate-General of the Competition of the European Commission has chosen the search and Unified Information Access Platform from Sinequa to help with its work.

The DG Competition has a number of responsibilities that include deciding on notifications for mergers and acquisitions and verifying suspected abuse of a dominant market position or illicit cartels. It does its work as fast as possible to mitigate the effects on consumers and affected competitors.

Each case can involve thousands of documents in different industries and often with complex legal issues. The Directorate-General selected Sinequa’s solution to rapidly take on and understand cases, to discover all relevant information while respecting access rights to documents and to keep track of important information of each case.

Dirk Van Erps, project leader at DG Competition and head of the unit dealing with cartels, says, “The ease of use--including the desired collaboration functions, the relevance of search results and the comparatively simple implementation of the solution were crucial for our decision.”

Erps added, “A case handler can be fully operational with Sinequa after just one hour of training.”

Alexander Bilger, chairman and CEO of Sinequa, says, “Eventually, millions of documents are captured, analyzed and managed by the Sinequa platform to provide indisputable quality in the treatment of business competition in the strictest of safety compliance.”
