Gaining control of e-learning

A million dollars is none too shabby. That's the amount of money that a large bank in Norway is said to have saved in one month after it implemented a new e-learning platform.

X.HLP says that Den norske Bank (DnB) realized that savings through its training software that accelerates the adoption of business-critical software applications enterprisewide.

Tore Beitveit, head of the bank's 2002 Credit Process Project, explains, "We needed to train 1,000 employees to use the new credit system and prior to roll out, we explored a number of training options. However, due to hidden costs, the time required and the complex nature of the subject matter (our software application), we were warned beforehand not to do this job ourselves. Outside consultants said that we would neither meet the deadline nor master the task. X.HLP assured us we could not only meet the deadline, but also do it ourselves. We successfully achieved all our goals."

"With the X.HLP platform," he continues, "we were also able to leverage our training development efforts to produce our own interactive help system for our credit system, all built using X.HLP Guides. These X.HLP Guides can be called up to remind users of what they have learned after the e-learning itself has been completed and as a result, our employees can solve most problems without the need to consult a manual or contact an expert on a help desk. This combination of training and performance support, all delivered to our employees in multiple offices, has resulted in cost savings of over $1 million within just one month of the implementation. The return has been impressive. More importantly for DnB, we are now in complete control of our own e-learning system and have maximized our employees' use of our internal credit system."

The X.HLP Adaptive Learning Platform is said to allow the quick creation of media-rich, interactive learning object-based training courses and testing. It also reuses learning objects to create a support system in which users can access post-training support content.
