Big Green launches alumni portal

Dartmouth College has launched Digital Library for Alumni, an online portal that is said to provide content resources and tools to strengthen the relationship the college maintains with its graduates. About 60,000 alumni will be able to benefit from the content.

The portal features Divine’s Special Collection, an online business library of more than 70 million pages of full-text content from 7,000 sources, including business and trade publications, academic and scientific journals, newspapers and newswires. Users, for example, can browse the headlines of the day or access the resources of the Dartmouth College Library collection.

"The creation of this new portal with full-text content and search capabilities, as well as links to other Dartmouth Web sites, allows us to continue to share valuable resources with our alumni," says Richard Lucier, librarian of the college. "This is extremely important to Dartmouth because our alumni have come to expect a certain high-quality standard of technology, service and information from us. Divine has helped us to fulfill that responsibility in the digital arena."

"What differentiates one portal from another is meaningful content; without it, users will turn elsewhere for information," says Jim Krzywicki, general manager of Information Services for Divine. "Dartmouth College recognizes this imperative and is making the best use of the Special Collection by incorporating it into a portal to which its key constituencies turn for valuable information."
