Transforming Work with Knowledge Tech

Content optimization improves workplace productivity and AI is helping to make content easier to find than ever before. In a session at Text Analytics Forum ’18,, Katrina B Pugh, senior manager, digital, data and analytics, EY and Columbia University, Greg Nemeth, director - Global Knowledge Platforms, EY Knowledge, EY, explained how the professional services firm has teamed up with Microsoft to improve productivity both for itself and for clients.

Text Analytics Forum ’18 is collocated with KMWorld 2018, Taxonomy Boot Camp 2018Enterprise Search & Discovery, and Office 365 Symposium.

Microsoft and EY have pushed forward into operations and customers, spanning the breadth of enterprise tools from Office 365, Teams, Yammer, and SharePoint to Cortana robots, workplace analytics, and image recognition.

The presentation explained how EY is using cognitive services and natural language processing to disambiguate search queries, improving relevance and accelerating content retrieval paired with Office 365-based collaboration capabilities that transform creating and sharing content.

According to Pugh and Nemeth, content optimization at scale can:

  • deliver a search experience that makes identifying relevant content easy
  • prioritize content needs
  • help organizations comply with confidentiality and intellectual property rights while engineering reuse
  • archive obsolete content to maintain the quality and relevance of the content collection
  • increase the value of content by accepting and curating only relevant high value content that is connected to related materials and people.

The presentation also highlighted how EY has worked with a media and entertainment company with product testing delays, using robotic process automation, built on Microsoft Cortana’s machine learning and analytics.

The client needed to vastly increase throughput from quality and safety team, found that engineers are difficult to hire and train, was dealing with limited consistency and arbitrary inputs, and was faced with highly cyclical demand which created staffing challenges such as during the December holiday timeframe.

EY and Microsoft is helping the customer bring a manual process into the digital workplace, improving testing accuracy to 92%. EY is using cognitive automation to improve the product testing productivity.

Automation is inevitable and it presents an opportunity to free people up from mundane repetitive tasks for a variety of higher value tasks, as well as to improve consistency and volume were necessary, Pugh and Nemeth emphasized.

Many Taxonomy Boot Camp presentations, including this one, have already been made available online at www.taxonomybootcamp.com/2018/Presentations.aspx and others will become available after the presentations are given.

KM World 2019 will be held November 5-7, 2019 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC, with pre-conference workshops on November 4.
