McAfee and Network General Merge

A new company, Network Associates (Santa Clara, CA), has been formed from the merger of McAfee Associates (Santa Clara) and Network General (Menlo Park, CA). The deal, which has closed ahead of schedule, creates the world's largest independent network security and management software company, and the tenth largest independent software company. The new company's product line is comprised of four software suites: the Total Virus Defense suite, Total Network Security suite, Total Visibility suite, and the Total ServiceDesk suite. The Network Security division includes technology from Network Associates' first acquisition, Pretty Good Privacy (San Mateo), a cryptographic security solutions provider. "Network Associates will be a premier partner for enterprise customers" who are looking to realize the benefits of secure, reliable network computing architecture, according CEO Bill Larson.
