KMWorld 2010 Conference and Exhibition
November 16-18, 2010 | Renaissance Hotel | Washington DC

The conference theme, KnowHow: The Knowledge-Driven Enterprise, puts an emphasis on "how to" achieve a knowledge-based, successful enterprise. We are seeking experienced knowledge, content, search, and intranet experts who can provide practical, hands-on information, case studies, and instruction that will maximize the value of the conference attendees’ technological investments. We want to share creative ideas for dealing with knowledge and intellect, talent and human capital, as well as content and other resources in open, diverse, and agile organizations.

KMWorld 2010 provides attendees with all the essential pieces of the information engine that powers the enterprise—including knowledge creation, sharing, finding, mining, reuse and more.

KMWorld 2010 uniquely blends opportunities to network with experts and peers while also providing concrete insights toward maximizing human capital and enterprise information resources.

Knowledge processes and practices drive decision-making and provide competitive advantage. Understanding the underlying technologies that support these processes and practices and adding "knowhow" of the tools, techniques, and solutions are key goals for KMWorld 2010.

The Future of Enterprise Content Management
Good content management splays a pivotal role in an organization's ability to manage input and output of information, and can make the difference in whether the company understands its content value, or whether it's lost in the weeds. We will opt for the former, and find ways to help organizations reconstruct their ECM programs so that information does not go wasted.

Best Practices in Knowledge Management

KNOW THIS: KNOWLEDGE IS ELUSIVE

Many knowledge management gurus will tell you that knowledge cannot be "managed," in the typical sense. Data can be managed. Information can be managed. But "knowledge" is in some kind of fourth dimension, outside of the reach of control.

Maybe it's a semantic argument. But there are plenty of people out there who are active knowledge managers--some with business cards that say so!--and spend their days managing their organizations' knowledge just fine, thank you very much.

But there IS a point to the pundits' argument: Knowledge is not easy to put your finger on. It's an ethereal thing; it's not simply data, and it's not simply "what's in people's heads" either. It's both. So to conduct knowledge management requires a deep understanding of the business AND the workers who walk in and walk out of your buildings every day.

The next KMWorld White Paper--"Best Practices in Knowledge Management"--will try to unravel that knot.
