SER acquires MacroSoft, strengthens DM offering

In a play to expand into the North American document systems market, German document management solutions provider SER Systeme AG has acquired Rochester Hills, MI-based MacroSoft for an undisclosed amount.

MacroSoft's Synergy document imaging and management system will be joined with SER's high-end document management and workflow technologies. SER has strong roots in financial services, which represents 35% of its European sales, and looks to use this core competency in the U.S. financial services market. SER has approximately 1,100 employees with major divisions in Germany, France, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Though saying operations will be "business as usual," Macrosoft president and CEO Jim Western applauded the future integration of Synergy with SER's "exciting new advanced technology." Western will lead the management team for the new company, which will retain the MacroSoft name and branding.

"We anticipate considerable benefits from cross-selling and integrating technologies between the organizations," agreed SER Group CEO Gert Reinhardt.
