Lava Claims Deal with Northern Star Insurance

Lava Systems (Toronto) has been selected to provide claims processing solutions to Northern Star Insurance's Motor and Household insurance operations. UK-based Northern Star, a unit of the $7.4 billion Italian insurance group Generali, is implementing workflow solutions from Lava that work with Total Systems' (London) Ultima application on an IBM RS6000. The deal, worth about $525,000 excluding hardware, calls for Lava to install an initial 50-seat installation at NSI's Gloucester-based insurance offices. Lava's existing set of workflows for insurance operations were a key in winning the deal, said Nick Gunter, NSI's Executive Manager of Claims. "We were keen to team up with a company with extensive insurance experience," he said. With this deal, Lava is reportedly setting its sights on bigger insurance prey, according to Robert Terry, Senior VP and Managing Director of Lava's European division. "We are confident," he said, that "we will have demonstrated the benefits of our technology to the whole of the Generali Group."
