FileNet presents ASAR services

On the heels of the release of Version 3.5 of its ECM platform, FileNet has announced P8 Active Storage and Retrieval (ASAR) services. The company explains that ASAR services enable integration between the FileNet P8 ECM platform and leading storage vendors' technologies including EMC, HP, Hitachi Data Systems, IBM, Network Appliance, Plasmon and Sun, allowing the ability to intelligently manage content migration to different data storage tiers and individual storage platforms based on the business value of content.

FileNet adds ASAR services provide new capabilities, delivered in the 3.5 version of P8, to allow customers to dynamically and intelligently manage content throughout the entire content, process and storage life cycle, designed to integrate with many types of storage media--irrespective of technology or vendor platform.

The company explains its approach enables organizations to map storage devices using policy-based management of content based on the overall value and context of the content, derived from a number of factors including type of content, age, business process that content is associated with, content state and user practices, as well as business and compliance/regulatory requirements such as retention, access, security and disposal. Taking those content and process attributes into consideration, content can be automatically moved to the storage media type that provides the most optimal price/performance based on the context and value of that content over time.
