FAST and LexisNexis: taxonomy team up

Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) has inked a deal that provides LexisNexis Taxonomy Solutions through the FAST Enterprise Search Platform (ESP).

The companies say the partnership will enhance the FAST ESP search platform by organizing content based on controlled vocabulary terms, creating metadata that makes search easier and more relevant. Those taxonomies may also form the basis for a variety of user interface features such as guided navigation and on-the-fly results clustering. After users run a search, they will be able to view relevant hierarchal classifications that help them to analyze answer sets and launch new queries, says FAST.

LexisNexis has a comprehensive collection of index terms covering subjects, industries, geographic locations, companies and organizations, all of which are continually updated by a team of taxonomy experts. Initially, the agreement with FAST will include the subject taxonomy, called ³General News & Business,² and taxonomies for individual industry sectors.
