Collaboration, confidently

Tacit has launched a significant new initiative with the release of ActiveNet, which is said to be a new enterprise software solution that proactively drives interactions between users across large, complex or information-intensive enterprises.

Tacit says ActiveNet identifies who should be collaborating rather than how they should collaborate. The product is specifically designed to add value to existing workspace and messaging software, providing online gathering places and message transport but do nothing to help workers identify people with the relevant, time and money-saving expertise with whom they should be collaborating, claims Tacit.

The company describes ActiveNet as a browser-based application with an integrated feature set designed to make collaboration easy and effective. It builds an Active Collaboration Network, continuously identifying the connections between people working in a large or complex organization and ensuring they are brought together. Features include:

People search, which is designed to help users find the people with whom they should collaborate.

Hotlists, an automated search agent that continuously looks for people working on related topics and invites them to coordinate their work.

Conversations, a mechanism to manage, record and index structured collaborations through e-mail.

Launchers, which enable ActiveNet users to move into workspaces in external collaboration applications such as Groove and eRoom.

Content links, which help users locate relevant content in a document database or network file repository and to find previous conversations or previously answered questions.

Automated discovery, which automatically identifies the changing activities of every person in an organization. The company’s discovery mechanism provides detail and clarity, without requiring the expensive and labor-intensive process of developing a taxonomy, and strictly protects individual privacy.

Connectors, which are lightweight XML-based applications that tap into external systems such as OpenText Documentum and Lotus Notes to discover new user activity and content.

ActiveNet’s core functionality is built on Tacit ESP 5.0, a scalable platform for coordinating enterprise collaboration that includes intuitive system administration, reporting and integration APIs supporting Java, XML and Web Services
