Dale Carpenter currently serves as the Distance Learning program manager for the National Park Service (NPS). With over 20 years of experience in the design and development of eLearning courses, his career includes a 20 year military service career, with training assignments as Instructor, Course Manager and Director of Instruction; Founder and President of a 50 person company in Houston, TX, which over a 13 year period produced over 2500 hours of online learning for corporate and government customers; Training Program Manager for a defense contractor in the Washington DC area; and online course developer for the FBI Academy. Dale has a solid understand understanding of various aspects of eLearning course design, and has created highly engaging online courses that use gaming technologies and advanced learning object sequencing, following rigorous standards that apply to government courseware design, including SCORM and 508 accessibility standards. His current focus is on the integration of lightweight “nanolearning particle” components and the associated learning ecosystems that support the fusion of formal and informal learning – and can be utilized on all digital computing devices, including smartphones and electronic tablets. The Common Learning Portal project is part of the NPS learning ecosystem under development and that matches learning opportunities with learners, and provides a common access point for all types of training events, resources, social networks for learning and activities across the NPS.
