Alison Turner

Alison Turner is Head of Knowledge Mobilisation at the Strategy Unit, part of NHS Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning Support Unit. She leads work at the intersection of evidence, policy, and practice, helping health system leaders frame problems, assess options, and make better use of knowledge for decision-making.
Alison has over 30 years' experience in health information, knowledge management, and research support. Her recent work includes leading a Health Foundation-commissioned project on failure demand in healthcare, which produced a widely discussed report, an exploratory typology, and a programme of academic and practitioner outputs. She has also led an NIHR-funded realist review and has won two further NIHR grants as co-applicant.
Alison holds an MSc in Translational Health Sciences from the University of Oxford, where her dissertation examined knowledge creation through developmental peer review of NHS Long Covid services. She co-organises the annual UK Knowledge Mobilisation Forum, for researchers and practitioners using knowledge for social change and her work explores knowledge for innovation and improvement; knowledge equity; and knowledge mobilisation in complex and fragmented systems.
