Sun Reveals Intelligent Storage Server

Sun Microsystems (Mountain View, CA) has unveiled a storage server for various servers in the network environment. The StorEdge A7000 Intelligent Storage Server supports Solaris, UNIX and NT servers, and includes DataShare software for sharing mainframe, UNIX and NT data without file transfers. The A7000 has a total capacity up to 2.9 terabytes, with up to 4.0 gigabytes of mirrored, non-volatile cache. The DataShare software, coupled with the ability to connect to various environments, provides what customers view as real value in storage architecture, according to IDC

(Framingham, MA) senior VP David Vellante. The A7000 Intelligent Storage Server is available now, with volume shipments set to begin in February. Pricing starts at $286,000.
