StorageTek announces new TimberWolf library

) presents its new, low-end TimberWolf library that will be generally available later this quarter. The library's key focus is to provide an upgrade path for customers to expand as their storage needs change. The new TimberWolf 9470 family can house between 326 and 494 cartridges--either TimberLine or Redwood tapes--for a capacity of 400 GB up to 25 terabytes. Users can attach up to six libraries using StorageTek's pass-through capability, which enables tapes to be transferred between libraries. A six-library configuration can hold up to 3,000 cartridges.

StorageTek has traditionally served the needs of companies that are using high-end applications requiring massive amounts of storage. The new library is designed for smaller, centralized units, with the assurance that they can expand. The new library also sports a smaller footprint design to help with space constraints.
