Paper to Web gets packaged for enterprise

For organizations that are making high volume conversions of paper to electronic documents and have committed to PDF (or are thinking about it), Adobe's recent announcement of an enterprise pricing strategy and agreement with Law Cypress could have a very positive impact.

Adobe has released a new Capture VE (volume edition) of its Adobe Acrobat Capture software, priced at $14,995 for unlimited conversions vs. the $895 per 20,000 pages of standard Adobe Capture. Catering to the needs of an organization looking for a "whole solution," Adobe also announced that Law Cypress will be the primary reseller of Capture VE.

According to Gartner Group corporate publishing consultant Rita Knox, some of the larger enterprise clients she has worked with regarded Adobe Capture as a good product but were not satisfied with the pricing structure. This move by Adobe is "a graceful way" of addressing that concern by changing its pricing structure, she said.

By combining Capture VE with hardware and software including Kofax Ascent Capture and Input Software's InputAccel, Law Cypress feels it is unique in its ability to offer end-to-end solutions for making intelligent electronic documents out of paper, said Dan Frumkin, VP of marketing at Law Cypress.

"We plan to package Capture VE 2.01 with other hardware, software and services to help resellers take advantage of the tremendous demand for getting paper documents onto intranets and the Web," he said
