Dealing with hyperautomation in 2022

Hyperautomation has provided organizations with a toolkit and methodology to drive cost savings, create efficiency, and improve business outcomes.

And with documents providing process friction, it's obvious why intelligent document processing (IDP) is at the center of many projects. With most organizations running many automation projects simultaneously, improved outcomes come with a high cost.

The reality is that organizations need a cohesive, strategic plan to avoid the chaos of creating tech stacks that compare to the urban sprawl of housing developments and suburbs. Urban sprawl has been correlated with increased energy use (costly), pollution (unhealthy), traffic congestion (slow and error-prone), a decline in community distinctiveness (average at best) and cohesiveness (lacking a plan).

KMWorld held a webinar featuring Stephen Boals, SVP, strategy and evangelism, Ephesoft, and Gretchen Peri, senior director, Slalom Consulting, who discussed strategies for enabling successful hyperautomation.

Hyperautomation is a framework and set of advanced technologies for scaling automation in the enterprise; the ultimate goal of hyperautomation is to develop a process for automating enterprise automation, Boals explained.

“It’s all about getting the right information to the right person at the right time for digital transformation,” Peri said.

Gartner 2021 research finds that 56% of organizations are currently engaging in anywhere between 4 and 10 concurrent hyperautomation initiatives.

Hyperautomation initiatives focus on digitizing documents and artifacts to ensure that their business and IT process workflows have the least amount of friction.

This task-level digitization is the foundation for process-level and cross-functional enablement of decision-making for business agility and resilience, said Boals.

Diffuse or siloed spending on automation initiatives leads to difficulties in process orchestration across functions and higher total cost of ownership.

Beyond the IT function, business units have also been struggling to enable personnel with the right data and analytics at the right time in the right format to make data-driven decisions.

Gartner survey data shows that 65% of the decisions made are more complex than just two years ago.

“Cloud solutions help our clients take advantage of automation,” Peri said.
