EMASS Unveils AIT-Based Storage System

Another storage system incorporating Sony's (Park Ridge, NJ) new AIT technology has been released by

EMASS (Englewood, CO). The EMASS AML/S offers AIT configurations of up to 48 drives and 1182 cartridges, and supports a native capacity of 5.9 terabytes (29.5 TB with modular capabilities). The system can generate a 60 TB capacity with adaptive lossless data compression at more than one terabyte per hour. The system is supported by storage management software from Legato (Palo Alto, CA), Spectralogic (Boulder, CO), IBM (Armonk, NY) and by EMASS' own AMASS software. "By utilizing Sony's AIT Technology, EMASS' new AML/S library can achieve greater capacity, data transfer, and data access performance," said John Woelbern, senior marketing manager for Sony Electronic's Tape Streamer Products division. Pricing for the AML/S library starts at $49,950.
