New data analytics platform supports police operations

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) has chosen Accenture to design and deploy a data analytics platform to provide it with reliable, accessible data to reach management and governance goals and to support leadership decision-making.

The department selected Accenture for systems integration and project management. Information Builders will provide business intelligence and integration software to power the data analytics platform.

The SPD’s data analytics platform will enable its command staff to identify officers at risk of using excessive force and provide the information necessary for them to take corrective actions. Through a series of applications and dashboards, SPD’s leaders can pinpoint officers in potential jeopardy and institute training or redeploy them to areas where they are less likely to encounter aggressive situations.

Seattle Police COO Mike Wagers says, “Judge James L. Robart made himself very clear last August when he granted us an extension to procure a data analytics platform in accordance with our settlement agreement. We are pleased to announce this contract with Accenture, which is well under the anticipated costs and will enable us to deliver ahead of schedule. This new data analytics platform will improve our ability to track use of force, officer performance and early intervention, all while saving the city money.”

The SPD’s ability to review and report data was an area of need identified in a 2011 Department of Justice investigation of the SPD.
