E-mail Management

Customer Experience and Predictive Analytics

It's no secret that using traditional ways to distinguish yourself in the marketplace is becoming more and more difficult. As a result, businesses are recognizing the importance of improving the customer experience in order to win and retain customers and drive the bottom line. Key to delivering on this is knowing your customer—who they are, what they have already purchased from you, their address, etc...But we already knew all of that. "Knowing your customer" today means you have to know not only what they own and all of the above, but to take this intelligence a step further to determine what are they most likely to do next? Crashing the Inbox:Managing Email in Today's Information Age

Take a look at your email inbox right now ... go ahead, and see how many emails are in your inbox. 100? 500? 2,000? 4,000? Are all of the emails organized in a manner that allows you to easily find what you want? Or are just a scattered few of the most important emails catalogued in a folder? What about colleagues' emails that could be pertinent and valuable to your organization? There are too many emails to start with and, when you add junk and spam email to the equation, actually managing the flow of information through an organization's email system is a daunting task. Facing the Changes in the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure

Important changes in the rules around electronic discovery that took effect on December 1, 2006 will forever transform the way you manage your electronic content. These changes came in the form of amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure (FRCP) and are designed to acknowledge the significance of electronic evidence and address some of the practical discovery issues associated with it. For some, there may not be a sense of urgency.. Posted February 02, 2007

Efficient and Cost-effective Email Management With XML

Complying with mandated e-discovery requirements necessitates the use of XML platforms for optimal email management and storage. Multiple factors exist regarding how organizations approach archiving email in terms of their overall email management plans. Regardless of how an organization perceives the goal of its email management needs and responsibilities—or, for that matter, the way in which it needs to manage all of its vital information—its ability to develop and implement a technical solution can be a real challenge Posted February 02, 2007

Email: Unsticking the Glue

For me, the tipping point happened right around 1992-93 maybe. Until then, we had been using little “chat” programs to send short text messages to one another on our office LAN. Useful. Limited. Sort of cool. But having a public email address—that you put on business cards and everything—was still pretty exotic. In fact, I thought it was kinda pretentious. “Ooooh, he must be a high-tech god. He’s got an email address.” Then pretty soon I had one, too. So did you. And this is the tipping point I’m thinking of: One day, I realized that my job had transformed. I no longer did what I used to do (whatever that was). From that moment forward, my job became sending, receiving and replying to email. Posted February 01, 2007

The Readers speak-10th Anniversary KMWorld Readers' Choice Awards

About 11 years ago, a group of us were starting to ask ourselves whether all this "information management stuff" might have a greater purpose than merely to store information in a file server somewhere. That maybe—just maybe—information could be applied to the type of work and to the level of decision-making taking place in business at such a famously accelerated pace. And in providing that information to the right person at the right time, the promise of a truly knowledge-based economy could be realized. In the 10 years since ImagingWorld became KMWorld magazine, we've tried to address the discipline (practice? theory? religion?) of knowledge management from each of its well-known constituent components—people, process, technology.
