Xerox offering document imaging services
While paring its workforce by 10%, Xerox (Rochester, NY) is now offering a portfolio of document imaging services to help companies digitize their paper processes. The services, offered by Xerox Business Services (XBS), will consist of include document retrieval and preparation, scanning, indexing, optical character recognition (OCR), and Adobe PDF conversion. Services can be performed either totally off-site or as a combination of on-site and off-site activities. Xerox points to
AIIM's (Silver Spring, MD) projection of a $14 billion document imaging services market by the year 2000 ($4.8 billion in 1997 alone) as reason enough to jump on board. "Document capture and conversion is a complex, labor-intensive process that most businesses ultimately decide they would rather not do themselves," said XBS president Thomas Dolan. With this new service offering, he added, "businesses can have thousands or millions of documents converted rapidly and reliably, without investing in labor, equipment and operating space."
