Wiser engineering drawings

Layton Graphics reports it has introduced CAD2PDF Translator, which plots native AutoCAD (DWG) and MicroStation (DGN) files to fully functional PDF files that can be readily consumed by Adobe Acrobat Reader or Acrobat 5.0. Those PDFs retain vector resolution and convert text in CAD files to text-searchable PDFs, says Layton.

The company also offers services for creating automatically generated bookmarks and hyperlinks that allow customers to navigate through large engineering projects, facilitating the creation of a CAD to PDF- based workflow solution.

The CAD2PDF Translator is server-based software that can batch-convert thousands or millions of CAD drawings to PDF, Layton explains. CAD2PDF sits on the customer network and manages both file conversion and updating of searchable indexes. The server accesses custom font libraries and any other custom CAD library, resulting in an accurate plot from CAD to PDF.

The product is scheduled for initial release in May. Pricing for the product starts at $19,999.
