Water company implements IDM

The Eastern Municipal Water District (Perris, CA) recently began implementing its integrated document management solution. The Altris EBTM-based solution has been applied to the engineering environment, where it helps to manage large drawings, and the office, where it is being used to manage legal documents.

EMWD began the search for a solution about a year and a half ago. A document management system was sought as a way to improve customer service in part by ridding themselves of hard to manage paper documents and drawings.

The utility converted the engineering drawings and documents into an electronic format. With the help of Prisma, a local VAR, EMWD selected the Altris tool to help manage these electronic documents. The system works from an NT platform and is tied to an Oracle database.

"We are very pleased with the powerful storage and retrieval capabilities of EB,” said Joe Lewis, director of engineering services at EMWD. “We regard EB as the cornerstone and foundation on which to build and leverage future applications that will help us to achieve cost savings for our customers and improve our service to them. We anticipate that the system will have paid for itself within two years."
