Volkswagen chooses Documentum for departmental document management
Leading European auto manufacturer Volkswagen (Wolfsburg, Germany) is standardizing the information-sharing efforts of its financial services, legal, and human resources departments, and the R&D arm of its Audi subsidiary.
Volkswagen is adopting Documentum's EDMS '98 software package as the corporate-wide standard for managing the corporate knowledge contained in documents and enabling knowledge sharing across the company. EDMS will link unstructured documents with structured information contained in SAP R/3 repositories, forming the backbone for creating automated, efficient document-centric business processes.
According to Karl-Heinz Hornbostel, Manager Informatikzentrum at Volkswagen, standardization of document-centric business processes is key to Volkswagen's competitive strategy. "Document and knowledge management are among the key technologies enabling shorter development cycles, higher quality, profitability and growth in the increasingly competitive global automotive market," he said
