Visioneer Unveils OCR Offering

Visioneer (Fremont, CA) has joined the ranks of the OCR vendors with the ProOCR100, a low-cost OCR alternative for SOHO and small businesses. The ProOCR100 offers 99.7% accuracy, multiple-pass scanning and an on-screen verifier for proofing errors. The OCR software is billed as being three times faster than Xerox

's TextBridge Pro '98 and twice as fast as Caere's OmniPage Pro Version 8.0. Visioneer also claims that on faxes and photocopies, ProOCR100 is up to 200% more accurate than TextBridge and over 100% more accurate than OmniPage Pro. Simply stated, the product lets users "get text into the computer as quick as possible and as accurately as possible," said Jon Lewis, principal at WorldSource One.
