Unisys and Parity Talk it Up on CD-ROM
As the gap narrows between technology and the humans who use it, true KM systems that incorporate more human-centric interfaces and accessibility will evolve. As such, speech- and voice-enabled communications and programs will be of growing importance to future KM implementations. To this end, a new CD-ROM from Parity Software (Sausalito, CA) makes it easy to integrate its own interactive voice response (IVR) tool with those of Lernaut & Hauspie (Burlington, MA) and Unisys (Blue Bell, PA). The prepackaged system installs into Parity's Developer's Desktop IVR application development toolkit, allowing developers to create large-scale speech-enabled applications. The system also provides components for integrating Parity's IVR with L&H's ASR1500 speech recognition engine and Unisys' natural language speech assistant tools. Also included on the CD-ROM are live integrated examples of spoken language applications and their source code, and tips for VOS developers for speech-enabled applications from Voice Processing Specialists' Rand Hein. "This new integrated package simplifies spoken language development," said Rick Barchard, Natural Language program director at Unisys. "You no longer have to be a speech scientist to program a speech recognizer to deploy a voice-based application."
