Towards a paperless engine-building environment

Aircraft engine manufacturer GE Aircraft Engines plans to simplify access to jet-engine technical and maintenance information, which will help its customers save time and money.

Over the next 18 months, GE will use Enigma's INSIGHT software to electronically publish its jet engine maintenance and technical documentation onto CD-ROMs and to the Internet. The software and services deal is worth $4.8 million.

For GE customers such as airlines and maintenance facilities, getting technical information more quickly in electronic form will result in less aircraft downtime and fewer maintenance costs, significantly improving their overall operations, according to Sherri Mowery, GE's Director of Technical Information Operations.
