Top Canadian media site standardizes both sides of information sharing

Web site visitors and independent news feeds are both beneficiaries of The Globe and Mail's efforts to get the most out of its extensive information database.

A division of the Thompson Corporation, The Globe and Mail is one of the top four media sites in Canada with over 20 million page impressions per month. The Globe and Mail family of sites includes Canada's largest job site (GLOBEcareers.com), most popular bookstore (ChaptersGLOBE) and premier daily mutual fund site (GLOBEfund.com).

Visitors to these sites use Verity to search through the company's news, mutual fund, technology and other data collections. The Globe and Mail also uses Verity on the back end to manage information sent to various independent news providers such as RTI and NewsEDGE.

Standardizing on Verity has helped The Globe and Mail organize, build and centrally maintain the hundreds of thousands of documents stored on Web and file servers, according to Jeff Sherman, Director of Business Planning and Director of Technology at Globe Information Services.
