Sybase Unveils Search Tool for its Adaptive Server

Sybase (Emeryville, CA) has announced the general availability of a search and retrieval tool tailored for its Adaptive Server database. The Standard Full-Text Search SDS (Specialty Data Store) uses Verity

's (Sunnyvale, CA) search, retrieval and filtering technology to access information stored in the Adaptive Server database. Features include support for 60 different search capabilities including Boolean, proximity and wild card, text and image filters, text highlighting and document summarization and multi-language capabilities. The system is currently being used by ILX Systems (New York), a major provider of market research and information systems for the financial services market. "Our Wall Street customers rely on us to provide real-time access to breaking news and stock information knowledge critical to making their business decisions," said Chris Starkey, ILX's manager of database administration. The Standard Full-Text Search SDS helped streamline their system by putting all data on a single database so users could perform full-text queries "ultimately providing our customers with more customized, flexible and intuitive research capabilities," he added. The Standard Full-Text Search SDS is currently available to Adaptive Server customers on Sun Solaris and Windows NT platforms at no additional charge. Versions for HP-UX, AIX and Digital UNIX will be available by mid-1998.
